Surge test (lightning test)
The purpose of surge test (lightning test) is to establish a common benchmark to evaluate the performance of equipment when subjected to high energy disturbance from power lines and interconnects. The task of laboratory test is to find out the response of EUT to surge voltage with certain harmful level generated by beginning or lightning when it works under the specified working state.

Surge (impact) immunity test is to simulate the influence of lightning strike (indirect lightning) in nature and voltage change caused by large switch switching in power supply line and communication line. The surge test specifies two waveforms (1.2/50μs and communication wave 10/700 μs) with amplitudes of 0.5kV to 4kV. The energy is particularly large, and the impact on EUT may be destructive.
10/700 μs (commonly known as communication wave) is suitable for long-distance symmetrical communication ports, and 1.2/50μs is suitable for power line ports and other signal line ports.
